The Long Game, a World of Darkness campaign to tell the epic story of creation. Inspired by epic literature such as Paradise Lost, the Aenad, Rime of the Ancient Mariner, etc. As a generational epic, the players will create a central character, who will be their main thrust for the campaign. Each player will also create associated characters to be used in place of their main character if that character is incapacitated. Given the lengths of torpor with the decline of humanity over the course of an ancient kindred’s undeath, the main characters may be on the sidelines for hundreds, if not thousands, of years at a time. A system has been developped to provide xp and benefits to characters while strategic plans develop.
SettingThis campaign tells the story of a series of ancient vampires. Begun almost 200 years after the dawn of creation, the biblical creation story is valid, God created the Earth in six days and rested on the seventh. Created Adam and Eve, the war in heaven, as described in Paradise Lost, happened as well as the exodus from Eden. The human population is about 2000 worldwide, the world being a flat plane in a crystal sphere which the sun revolves around. Dinosaur fossils really will be planted by the Order of Reason in a few thousand years to help loosen the grasp of the Celestial Chorus on humanity, but not yet.
The humans of this era are cold and hungry, they live in small settlements east of Eden, trying to eke out an existence in a world unhappy by their presence. The wild lands, anything outside of a settlement, are ruled over by mighty shapeshifters who try to control the spread of man by destroying the works of man when man isn’t looking, scattering herds, burning farmlands, etc.
Far to the East, beyond the domain of man, in the land of Nod is another society. Caine the lord of the undead has established the first city, Enoch, devoted to the undead. This carving of civilization in the unclaimed wilderness of Nod is entirely dedicated towards maintaining the vampiric food chain and is home to plots within plots within plots.
The Antedeluvians, the vampires of the third generation, so feared and unknowable in modern vampire campaigns feature prominently in this campaign. Most are still neonates, not hugely more powerful than the players, but that will change with time.
The flood, the punishment of god against the immorality of the kindred is still some time away, the clans, although definately bloodlines have not yet been given their individual curses. Nosferatu is a beautiful woman, Malkav a deep and reasonable thinker, etc.
In this alien world, the players will create millenial plots and plans, the use of technology such as this, Obsidian Portal, will allow a great level of interaction and data maintenance to give a really fleshed out gaming experience that spans thousands of years.
